Leonard Keysor (1885-1951) was born in Maida Vale, London.
He coincidentally moved to Australia three months before the start of World War
I, and on 18 August 1914, he joined the 1
st Battalion of the
Australian Imperial Force in Paddington, Sydney. Keysor was one of the many men
who ventured to Gallipoli on April 25
th 2015. Due to his refined
catching skills from cricket back in his boarding school days, Keysor brilliantly
caught the bombs, which the Turks were throwing into his trench at Lone Pine,
and threw them back at the enemy. Because of his unwavering bravery, Keysor
received a Victoria Cross and managed to survive the war and become a national
hero.
